Inklings Club Feature

“Inklings”,  founded last year by sophomore Anna Chen, is a club dedicated to the arts and “providing a creative environment in a mainly STEM oriented school” . If you’re looking for a relaxed club to spend your Thursday lunches, then Inklings might be the perfect club for you! One of their most notable projects last year was the collection of donations to help build a library in Africa.

What is the club’s mission statement?
Interlake is highly focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), with numerous clubs like Interlake Robotics, Chem Club, and more that address interests in the STEM field. While STEM is very important, some may want to take a break and venture more into the creative world. The Inklings Club is an amazing way to pursue an interest in writing, drawing, and anything else related to the arts.
The Inkling’s dedication to the arts can also be seen in their club name, which co-president Ana Chen picked because “Hemingway had a writing group called the Inklings too”.

Describe a typical club meeting.
According to the co-president of the club, Ana Chen, the Inklings usually start of their meeting by “talking about writing” and various other things, such as favorite authors and or just what people are thinking about. For most of the meeting, club members just talk and eat lunch together, creating a “very relaxed” environment, says Chen.
The Inklings club offers an opportunity to unwind after the first half of a Thursday block day. Although they are writing focused, the officers are open to discussing anything that their members want to talk about, from random thoughts to in depth discussions of a book that someone is reading.

Why join?
Agnes Shan, also the treasurer for the club, joined last year because she wanted to work on their comics. She played a big part in the fundraiser last year for building the library in Africa, and in the process, was able to grow her art skills by creating posters for the fundraiser.

The Inklings club has a “nice environment”, says Chen. They meet in Portable 106, Mr. Constans’ portable, which has a lot of natural lighting and various plants dotting the room.

And if you are not ready to make a commitment to the Inklings club yet, you can submit your art by emailing them at interlakeinklings@gmail.com, and get featured in their magazine.
Find the Inklings every Thursday lunch in the 106 portable!
