Nature’s cry for help

Our world is in chaos. More specifically, the earth and its environment. How are we supposed to combat summers filed with hazy smoke? Should we celebrate snow during Fall?

With all these questions in the air, something needs to be done. Global warming is causing schools to be canceled, forcing people to stay in their homes, and seasons to come early.

Just last month (November), snowflakes were whirling around the streets of Bellevue and Seattle, causing a flurry of confusion and shock. Temperatures made a new record that day, with the area’s previous coldest day having occurred nearly half a century before.

In stark contrast, the heatwaves during the summer caused wildfires all over the nation. Seattle had one of its hottest and driest summers on record.

When asked about the current global warming patterns, Green Team officer Mona Rahimi stated that “natural disasters keep reoccurring … something is amiss”.

We cannot stop nature on her path, but we can try and prevent humans from causing further damage.

Green team suggests only taking what you need, since waste can destroy everything in its path. For example, if you misplace one item in a recycling bin, the whole bag could be thrown into a dump.

If you want to join other students who are passionate about creating an environment for the future, join the Interlake Green Team. They have already implemented hand dryers (amongst other things), but as Rahimi says, “there is only so much one club [can] do”.
